Derek Ramsay on Judy Ann Santos: ‘I owe her my career’!
After establishing a successful on-screen tandem in Ysabella, Derek Ramsay and Judy Ann Santos are set to reunite for another teleseryeHabang May Buhay. This much-anticipated drama series was among the new shows unveiled during the ABS-CBN Trade Launch at the Philippine Advertising Congress last November 19. Backstage at the said event, Derek told ABS-CBN.com that he is very happy that Habang May Buhay will finally be shown in 2010. “It feels great because we have been waiting for so long for this teleserye to be aired. Nakaka-stress din kasi ‘yung length of time that we have been working on this. But when I saw the AVP being aired sa Trade Launch, nakalimutan ko lahat ng stress. I realized na napakaganda ng teleseryeng ginagawa namin. Finally it’s going to air.”
Derek also said that he owes so much to Ysabella and to Judy Ann for launching him as one of the most in demand leading men on television. Just this year alone, the model-turned-actor was seen in three dramas, namely Komiks presents Mars Ravelo’s Nasaan Ka Maruja, The Wedding, and Precious Hearts Romances presents Ang Lalaking Nagmahal sa Akin. After being paired with other young actresses, Derek said he is happy that he will be reunited with Judai. “It’s an honor to be working again with ‘the Judy Ann Santos.’ I owe her my career. If ever I’ll be paired with her again, definitely I’ll say yes. It’s so easy to work with her.”
Production for Habang May Buhay began middle of 2008, and since then many have wondered about when this “medical teleserye” will finally hit the small screen. Speculations began about production setbacks, which Derek clarified with ABS-CBN.com. “The reason the production took so long is because there are so many medical terms. We want to get this right. We want to show how good Filipino doctors and nurses are as they are known all over the world. Hindi lang magaling kung hindi maalaga tayo. We don’t want the teleserye to just be a regular drama set in a hospital. We want to show the kind of lives of these doctors, how they go about their day.”
The hunky actor further confessed that he got a bit discouraged when the airing of Habang May Buhay was pushed back a number of times. While he was taping for this drama, he was also juggling other projects likeMaruja and PHR. “I admit I was a bit discouraged when hindi ma-ere ‘yung show. Naguguluhan kasi akobecause it’s not easy to do a character for a long time and may mga iba din akong ginagawang show. Na-confuse ako how to differentiate ‘yung mga characters na ginagawa ko. But with a lot of sacrifice I was able to do it. A lot of getting sick and going to the hospital, ha ha ha! I’m looking forward to 2010 because I will start the year with Habang May Buhay.”
