The lawyers of TV host-actress Kris Aquino announced on July 11 that they are set to begin legalizing her separation with husband James Yap.
“The Buzz,” through host Boy Abunda, aired the official statement sent by the Queen of All Media’s legal counsel from the Marcos Ochoa Serapio & Tan law firm which read:
“Ms. Kris Aquino has recently announced that she has decided to end her marriage to Mr. James Yap and asked us to initiate the appropriate proceedings for the purpose. She believes that this is for the best interest of all concerned, especially her children. We shall take the necessary steps at the soonest possible time and request everybody to respect the privacy of the parties and let the legal process take its course.”
Aquino is currently in the United States together with her two sons Joshua and Baby James for a three-week vacation, the first time that they are not with Yap. In a recent interview, Aquino said she will leave it to her lawyers to speak on her behalf regarding the matter.
On June 27, Kris announced during her final episode on “The Buzz” that she has given up on her marriage with her cager-husband of almost five years. However, she refused to divulge her reason for wanting to end their controversial union. Five days before, she reportedly left their Makati home together with her sons and stayed at a five-star hotel in the same city. James is said to have recently vacated their abode to stay at a condominium in Ortigas.
The basketball star released an official statement on July 1 saying that he will do everything to save their marriage. In a succeeding TV interview, James said he is wooing her again. Kris, however, declined to comment on her ex-husband’s declarations.
In previous separate interviews, both families of Aquino and Yap said they are still hoping that the two can still patch things up.
