Hold on to your seats as Criss walks on water, levitates above the Luxor Hotel and floats between two buildings. This and more in Magic Bagsik, this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Back to back with Magic Bagsik, the world’s most favorite game show is back on Philippine TV as the all new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” begins this Sunday on TV5. “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” starts again tonight on TV5!

The millionaire fever is back. Beginning on May 15, Sunday, the world’s most popular game show is taking the Philippines by storm once more. Hosted by Bossing of Game Shows, Mr. Vic Sotto, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” kicks off its sixth season loaded with exciting additional lifelines, updated set technology and the chance for a lucky player to become 2 million pesos richer.

“As we enter our new season, we promise the viewers that we double the fun, excitement and tension in the sixth season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” That’s our final answer,” said Vic Sotto. To date, the game show has already given away more than P13 million in total prizes in its five-season run.

For the initial episodes of the all-new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” smart kids could be a few questions away to become young millionaires as the tension-filled game show features honor students recommended by their schools to get this once-in-a-lifetime chance to win P2 million. On top of the jackpot that will be split to the kid player and his/her respective school, win or lose, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” will award all the kid players college scholarships.

The overnight-millionaire dream is alive once again as Filipinos take their chance to defy the pressure from the hot seat for P2 million jackpot. To help the player along the way, the hot seat contestant can use lifelines available. Aside from pre-existing 50-50 and Phone-A-Friend lifelines, the new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” introduces added lifelines that will make the game even more exciting: People Speak and Switch. Through People Speak, the studio audience who answers correctly will have the chance to win up to P20,000. The Switch lifeline, meanwhile, entitles the contestant to switch out the original question for another question of the same value.

The game show that pioneered the craze over game shows on Philippine TV returned in May 2009 via its new home TV5. For the last decade since its debut in the UK in 1998, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has dominated the ratings game around the globe with international versions spawning in over a hundred countries, including its top-rating Philippine version.

While the elimination of players in the past was through Fastest Finger First round done in the studio, hot seat hopefuls this time will be selected through mall auditions. To register in the mall editions, text MILLION (space) Name/Age/Gender/Address to 2256 (Example: MILLION Mark Sy/21/M/12 Leo St., Quezon City). Each text costs P2.50 for Smart and Globe subscribers, and P2.00 for Sun Cellular subscribers.

TV5’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has recorded a first in local franchise history after Ms. Sharon Cuneta won the P2 million-peso jackpot for the benefit of the children at Hospicio de San Jose last January 9, 2010. Some celebrities including Ms. Coney Reyes, Arnel Ignacio, Efren Peñaflorida, Ms. Ruffa Gutierrez, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez have also played and won for their chosen charities.

Don’t miss the new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” starting on May 15, Sunday, 7:30pm after Magic Bagsik on TV5.

GMA 7 dominates NUTAM TV Ratings!

GMA-7 maintains its foothold in national ratings amid aggressive competition from other broadcast networks, based on figures from the most widely accepted ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Based on household data surveyed in National Urban Philippines from April 1 to April 30 (with 24 to 30 based on overnight readings), GMA-7 garnered 33.2 household audience share points, higher than ABS-CBN’s 31.3 and TV5′s 14.8.

The Kapuso Network also dominated the list of overall top 30 programs in National Urban Philippines with 20 entries, topped by the Philippine TV premiere of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes‘ movie You To Me Are Everything, which scored a household rating of 34.0 points.

In Urban Luzon, which comprises 77 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA-7′s lead over competing networks remained at double digit levels. The Kapuso Network sustained its strong ratings performance in the said area with 36.8 share points, 10.4 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 26.4; and 20.6 points ahead of TV5′s 16.2.

In viewer-rich Mega Manila, which covers 58 percent of total television households nationwide, GMA-7 garnered 37.6 share points, 12.8 points up from ABS-CBN’s 24.8; and 20.5 points higher than TV5′s 17.1.

Nielsen figures also show that among the three networks, GMA-7 was the only channel in Mega Manila that made a leap in weekday primetime (6:30 to 11pm) this April relative to March. GMA-7′s audience shares climbed by 2.8 points from 34.1 in March to 36.9 share points in April. Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s audience shares dropped by 2.0 points from 33.5 in March to 31.5 in April; and TV5′s audience shares fell by 3.4 points from 20.9 in March to 17.5 in April.

Furthermore, nationwide ratings data from January 1 to April 30 (with April 24 to 30 based on overnight readings) show that GMA-7 delivered superior performance in audience shares with 33.6 points, up from ABS-CBN’s 31.7 points and from TV5′s 15.1 points.

For the same period in Urban Luzon, GMA-7 registered an imposing 37.1 share points, higher than ABS-CBN’s 26.7 by 10.4 and TV5′s 16.9 share points by 20.2 points.

Year to date figures for Mega Manila show that GMA-7 posted 38.2 audience share points versus ABS-CBN’s 25.1 and TV5′s 17.7 for a lead of 13.1 and 20.5 points, respectively.

GMA-7 President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. said that GMA-7 continues to lead in the ratings, despite the efforts of competition. “We are extremely grateful to the growing number of viewers who subscribe to GMA-7 programs making us number 1 nationwide. We will continue our efforts towards ensuring the delivery of unbiased and relevant news and public affairs programs from our News and Public Affairs Group as well as innovative programs from our Entertainment TV Group,” Duavit said.

This month, GMA-7 will be launching seven new network-produced programs, two Koreanovelas, public affairs specials and will be airing the year’s most anticipated boxing match.

The line-up includes the Koreanovela Secret Garden, Munting Heredera, Blusang Itim, Andres de Saya, Sisid, My Chubby World, Playful Kiss, the Pacquiao-Mosley fight, Ground Zero, Sabadabadog, Blessed: John Paul II and the grand premiere of GMA-7′s biggest television production to date, Amaya on May 30.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is subscribed by 21 companies including two other local TV networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 13 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only local network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 880 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN tops April National TV Ratings!

ABS-CBN Corporation topped the national TV ratings in April, taking a double digit lead in primetime, which is the most important timeblock and when advertisers place most of its spot buys or commercial load.

Based on Kantar Media's report, ABS-CBN continues to beat all networks on primetime with an audience share of 43 percent in April, or a 13 point lead over GMA Network's 30%.

ABS-CBN secured nine out of the ten most watched programs for April, excluding the Holy Week when advertisers discount the holidays in doing their media plan and local networks don’t do regular programming.

“Mara Clara,” the country's most-watched primetime teleserye for the past months, tied with weekend top-rater “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on the number one spot in April both with an average national rating of 32.5%

“Mutya,” on the other hand, claimed the second spot with 30.8% followed by Coco Martin starrer “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (30.7%) and the country’s number one talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” (29.3%).

“TV Patrol” (25%), which recently delivered its successful coverages of the Royal Wedding between Prince William of Wales and commoner Catherine Middleton, and the beatification of Blessed John Paul II, remains to be the undisputed and most trusted primetime newscast in the country.

Other shows in the top ten are “Wansapanataym” (24%), “Rated K” (21.8%), and the recently concluded soap on vampires and werewolves in “Imortal” (21.5%).

Overall, ABS-CBN's national audience share for April reached 36% vs GMA’s 34%.

Kantar Media started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Kantar Media’s current subscribers include ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, jumped by P1.5 billion or 87% to P3.2 billion in 2010, a record-breaking performance for the Kapamilya network. ABS-CBN delivered consolidated revenues of P32.2 billion from advertising and consumer sales, posting an increase of P7.3 billion or 30% year-on-year.

GMA-7 and GMA News TV are Highest Rating Networks for Royal Wedding Coverage!

The Philippines has no royal family, but a wedding is a wedding and Filipinos, romantics at heart, will skip their usual TV fare to watch a royal couple say ‘I do.’
The proof? Over 4 million Filipinos in Mega Manila alone were tuned in yesterday to the British Royal Wedding of Prince William of Wales to commoner Catherine Middleton, based on AGB Nielsen overnight ratings.
And after weeks of heavy Royal Wedding promotions from practically all the TV networks, two ratings winners emerged.
From 5 to 8 in the evening—the royal caravan towards Westminster Abbey to the bride’s breathtaking reveal in her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress, throughout the wedding ceremony proper, and till the couple’s joyful carriage ride as husband and wife—GMA-7 and GMA News TV Channel 11 were the no. 1 and no. 2 networks in terms of ratings, based on AGB Nielsen data for Mega Manila.
GMA-7 hit 30.7 household shares for this time band. GMA News TV, just a two-month old news and documentary channel, followed GMA-7, with 22 household shares for the same period.
GMA News TV was the first free TV Channel to broadcast the wedding live, starting as early as 3 pm with its Royal Wedding: March to the Altar coverage, after first breaking the biggest news of the day: Merceditas’ Gutierrez announcement of her resignation as Ombudsman.
Normally the fourth-ranking free TV network, GMA News TV saw its ratings climb to a historic high on the Royal Wedding day, at a certain point leading all the free TV networks in ratings.
By 6 pm, GMA-7 ratings picked up with GMA’s special coverage of the same event, becoming the leader for the rest of the evening.
GMA News and Public Affairs has been preparing for its combined coverage for months, sending top anchors Jessica Soho, Vicky Morales and Connie Sison to London for first-hand reports on the royal festivities. GMA-7 and GMA News TV’s no. 1 and 2 ratings prove, once again, that GMA News and Public Affairs is the Filipinos’ most trusted source of news and information.

Gloria Romero leads family drama Munting Heredera cast!

GMA-7 offers its first family-oriented drama on primetime this year with the launching of Munting Heredera.

Playing the lead role of Doña Anastacia, a rich widow in search of her "munting heredera," is no less than multi-award winning actress and one of the original Queens of Philippine cinema, Ms. Gloria Romero, who now makes her television debut with the Kapuso network.

Joining Ms. Gloria Romero are some of today's biggest names in drama: Mark Anthony Fernandez, Camille Prats, Katrina Halili, Neil Ryan Sese, Ynez Veneracion, Leandro Baldemor, Gabby Eigenmann, Luz Valdez, Joyce Ching, Kristal Reyes, Kristoffer Martin, and Asian Television Awards best actor Mr. Roderick Paulate, who himself began his notable career as a child actor.

The program also introduces three talented young girls Mona Louise Rey, Kyle Daniel Ocampo, and Barbara Miguel. They all went through a rigorous audition process before clinching the roles of Jennifer, Michelle, and Calilla.

While each girl has a distinct story of her own, only one of them is the true heiress to the huge wealth of Doña Ana.

Under the direction of esteemed filmmaker Maryo J. delos Reyes, the search for the true 'Munting Heredera' begins May 9 on GMA Telebabad.

Sisters Toni & Alex is on the cover of Yes!

Is there any sibling rivalry going on between showbiz sisters Toni and Alex Gonzaga? After all, the two belong to rival networks: Toni is one of the most talented showbiz personalities in ABS-CBN, while Alex is slowly building a name for herself at TV5. This May, YES! reveals whether or not a rivalry exists as the magazine visits Toni and Alex in their home in Taytay, Rizal.

Born to a middle-class family, the Gonzaga sisters learned at an early age the value of hard work. Toni tells YES!, “I remember before we never owned a house, it was always an apartment. Bata pa lang kami, pag magche-church kami… lagi kaming bubulungan ng Daddy’t Mommy namin, ‘Ipag-pray ninyo, bahay at lupa.’ Hindi ko pa naiintindihan ‘yon [noon]… na-gets ko lang no’ng high school ako… [na] nangungupahan lang kami.”

Striving hard to enter showbiz, she faced countless rejections on her way to where she is now. Her father served as her mentor, who would offer a word of advice after every letdown. “’Anak, hindi tayo nandito para makipaglabanan ng ganda. Nandito ka dahil sa talento mo,’” Toni recalls him saying.

Then in 2006, Toni found her footing in show business and they were able to buy their own home. The five-year old residence of the Gonzagas in Taytay, Rizal is a dream come true, a product of hard work and perseverance. YES! features exclusive photos of the home’s common areas like the kitchen, living room, and dining room, as well as the newly-renovated pool area and backyard.

Even if Toni and Alex now have their own bedrooms and walk-in closets, Alex likes sleeping in Toni’s room while Toni also helps herself to Alex’s clothes. “We grew up na isa lang ‘yong room namin,” Toni says, “So, kahit no’ng may separate rooms na kami, nami-miss namin ‘yong company no’ng isa’t isa. Kasi before, we used to talk about our dreams before going to sleep… pinag-uusapan ‘yong mga gusto namin talaga. Tapos up to now, pag natutupad ‘yong mga pangarap namin, pinag-uusapan namin sa gabi.”

Aside from taking a look at the sisters’ bedrooms, YES! also takes a look at their walk-in closets. Alex’s walk-in closet, in particular, is filled with Chanel, Goyard, and Louis Vuitton bags, as well as lots and lots of clothes. She tells YES! about becoming a shopaholic because she used to envy her older sister Toni when they were younger. “Siyempre kasi siya ‘yong mas ibinibili ng damit, dahil nga nag-aartista siya. Ang gagawin ko, sa mall, uniiyak ako, pag hindi ako ‘binibili… Kaya ito, no’ng tumanda ako, ‘tapos lalo na no’ng kumikita na ako, talagang bili ako!” she says.

See more of the Gonzaga home and find out more about Toni and Alex’s showbiz beginnings as well as the love-hate relationship that exists between the sisters in the 21-page feature.

The May issue of YES! is now available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide.
