“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” starts again tonight on TV5!

The millionaire fever is back. Beginning on May 15, Sunday, the world’s most popular game show is taking the Philippines by storm once more. Hosted by Bossing of Game Shows, Mr. Vic Sotto, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” kicks off its sixth season loaded with exciting additional lifelines, updated set technology and the chance for a lucky player to become 2 million pesos richer.

“As we enter our new season, we promise the viewers that we double the fun, excitement and tension in the sixth season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” That’s our final answer,” said Vic Sotto. To date, the game show has already given away more than P13 million in total prizes in its five-season run.

For the initial episodes of the all-new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” smart kids could be a few questions away to become young millionaires as the tension-filled game show features honor students recommended by their schools to get this once-in-a-lifetime chance to win P2 million. On top of the jackpot that will be split to the kid player and his/her respective school, win or lose, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” will award all the kid players college scholarships.

The overnight-millionaire dream is alive once again as Filipinos take their chance to defy the pressure from the hot seat for P2 million jackpot. To help the player along the way, the hot seat contestant can use lifelines available. Aside from pre-existing 50-50 and Phone-A-Friend lifelines, the new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” introduces added lifelines that will make the game even more exciting: People Speak and Switch. Through People Speak, the studio audience who answers correctly will have the chance to win up to P20,000. The Switch lifeline, meanwhile, entitles the contestant to switch out the original question for another question of the same value.

The game show that pioneered the craze over game shows on Philippine TV returned in May 2009 via its new home TV5. For the last decade since its debut in the UK in 1998, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has dominated the ratings game around the globe with international versions spawning in over a hundred countries, including its top-rating Philippine version.

While the elimination of players in the past was through Fastest Finger First round done in the studio, hot seat hopefuls this time will be selected through mall auditions. To register in the mall editions, text MILLION (space) Name/Age/Gender/Address to 2256 (Example: MILLION Mark Sy/21/M/12 Leo St., Quezon City). Each text costs P2.50 for Smart and Globe subscribers, and P2.00 for Sun Cellular subscribers.

TV5’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has recorded a first in local franchise history after Ms. Sharon Cuneta won the P2 million-peso jackpot for the benefit of the children at Hospicio de San Jose last January 9, 2010. Some celebrities including Ms. Coney Reyes, Arnel Ignacio, Efren Peñaflorida, Ms. Ruffa Gutierrez, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez have also played and won for their chosen charities.

Don’t miss the new season of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” starting on May 15, Sunday, 7:30pm after Magic Bagsik on TV5.
