RadyoSingko: No. 4 in just 4 months!

RadyoSingko 92.3 NEWS FM, the radio arm of TV5, clinched the 4th spot among 20 FM stations in Mega Manila, according to data from the Personalized Radio Listenership Survey (PRLS) by the Radio Research Council (RRC).

The radio survey was conducted between March 25 and April 1 or just four months after 92.3 NEWS FM started broadcast in November last year—making it the first newcomer in recent radio history to reach the fourth top spot in such a short period of time.

Across all days from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., the first AM on FM radio station overtook 16 more established FM stations with a 3.8% audience share in Metro Manila, capturing a listeners’ base that prefers news, entertainment and talk on FM—a radio band that has since been dominated by music stations.

Luchi Cruz-Valdes, head of TV5 News and Information or News5, said RadyoSingko’s rapid surge in ratings is proof that the demand for public service and informative programming beyond television and traditional AM radio is growing more than ever.

“Since Day One of our broadcast, we’ve seen how our listeners found a new platform in Radyo Singko. They engage in our conversations, channel their views on certain issues and seek advice in our programs. More than our victory, we’re glad that our listeners are the ones benefiting most from our move to introduce this kind of innovation on FM radio,” she said.

The News5 head also co-hosts personal and family relations program “Relasyon” with Atty. Mel Sta. Maria daily on Radyo Singko at 12:15 p.m. The radio program aims to enlighten the public on the legal implications of relationships gone wrong.

The 7-month-old FM radio station’s surge in the ratings game is largely attributed to the strong performances of its public service program “Wanted sa Radyo” hosted by Raffy Tulfo with Nina Taduran on weekdays at 2 p.m. and “Love Idols” with Ariel Villasanta and Maverick Relova on Saturdays at 2 p.m.

Among all multi-weekly FM and AM radio programs, “Wanted sa Radyo” ranks top 2-3 in the survey—even toppling direct competition from top AM stations on its timeslot; while “Love Idols” clinches the top post among weekly programs within the afternoon (12 noon-6 p.m.) block.

The pioneering news/talk station on the FM band is also home to some of the country’s seasoned journalists, credible newsmen and renowned personalities including Neil Ocampo, Martin Andanar, Aida Sy, Cheryl Cosim, Sen. Dick Gordon, Paolo Bediones, Cheri Mercado, Cristy Fermin, Jove Francisco, Laila Chikadora, Lourd De Veyra, Anthony Pangilinan and Erwin Tulfo.

Radyo Singko 92.3 NEWS FM currently broadcasts in Mega Manila and extends strong reach up to some parts of Northern Luzon. Made possible by its convergence with other TV5 platforms, some Radyo Singko programs have nationwide TV simulcast on news channel AKSYON TV and 24/7 streaming via online news portal InterAksyon.com.
