Korina Sanchez and Mar Roxas are officially husband and wife after a grand wedding ceremony yesterday, October 27, at the Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City. The Filipiniana-themed wedding was attended by some of the biggest names in politics, media, and business.
At 2:30 pm just before the wedding, Korina went to Heritage Park in Taguig to visit the graves of her parents Ramon and Celia Sanchez (who both died in 2004) and of her brother Ramon Sanchez Jr. to pay her respects. “I do miss my mom. I’d never thought that I’d get married. I know she’s very happy for me. And my dad, alam kong masayang masaya sila for me.”
Korina arrived at Sto. Domingo past 3 pm, at first hidden from view behind curtains until she reached the steps of the church. As she was making her bridal march to the strains of “Umagang Kay Ganda,” she cried while being escorted by her brothers and greeted by the guests while Mar was misty-eyed when he saw his bride. When she arrived at the altar, Mar gave her a little salute and kissed her hand.
The ceremony was conducted in Tagalog, including the vows. The crowd applauded when the couple exchanged ‘I do’s’ and finally kissed as husband and wife. The song “Ngayon at Kailanman” by Basil Valdez played in the background as Mar kissed his bride.
Family and friends were full of good wishes for the newlyweds. “We just wish them so much happiness [and] happy healthy years ahead,” Kris Aquino said. Kris’ son James Yap Jr. was a ring bearer. Her brothers were happy to see their sister in good hands. “Now, may mag-aalaga na sa kanya kasi siya ang laging nag-aalaga sa mga kapatid niya,” Milano Sanchez said. “The right guy finally came,” Mickey Sanchez said.
After the ceremony, the couple went out to thank their supporters. A simple merienda cena of kesong puti and juice held in the church courtyard followed. A dinner with the couple’s family and friends was held at Mar Roxas’s ancestral house called Bahay na Puti in Cubao.
