Judy Ann Santos explains why ‘Habang May Buhay’ was delayed!

Teleserye queen Judy Ann Santos returns to primetime with her latest soap opera, Habang May Buhay, which premieres on February 1. After two years and numerous delays, the actress said that she is relieved that the nurserye—supposed to be Philippine TV’s first medical drama—will soon become part of ABS-CBN’s primetime slot.

Medyo natagalan lang talaga at sayang ‘yung ilang taon na nagdaan na I could’ve done a lot more series.

Habang May Buhay went through many revisions to improve the storyline. Four directors had already worked on the series before Wenn Deramas finally took the helm. The teleserye may have taken longer to get aired, but Judai said that it also gave her the chance to have many realizations. “Marami akong learnings, marami akong lessons at marami akong observations, so okay lang. It’s worth the wait. I believe in my director, I believe in the cast, I believe in the story as well. I have faith in the whole staff. Hindi mo matatawaran. Maybe it won’t be a big, big series pero I know one way or another, mamarka ito sa mga tao.”

Speaking of notable projects, Judai’s former leading man, Piolo Pascual, will be playing the late hero Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino in a two-part special of Maalaala Mo Kaya. Judai, who was previously reported as the Aquino siblings’ first choice to play the role of Cory, said that she was not offered the part. Bea Alonzo will play Cory in the MMK episode.

Judai stressed that she is still uncertain about accepting the offer to play Cory in a biopic. “Siguro it would be much better if we talk about it behind the camera. Anything can happen. As of now, I cannot say this year I’ll be doing a project with Piolo or this year I may not be doing a project with Piolo.

The actress also clarified that she and Piolo are on good terms and have put a previous misunderstanding to rest. “Matagal na ‘yun as in antagal-tagal nang balita ‘yon. Madalas kaming nagkakasalubong or minsan magi-guest ako sa ASAP. Nag-uusap kami. Wala nang isyu. At iba na ang buhay ko ngayon at iba na rin ang buhay niya ngayon so we’re friends,” she explained.

Judai, however, admitted that past malicious rumors are the reasons for her not wanting to do a project with Piolo just yet.
