Her intention to focus on only the positive might be the reason for her refusing to talk about her supposed breakup with rumored boyfriend John Prats. She did, however, say that there would always be respect, love, and friendship between them. Without being specific, Shaina said that she has learned important lessons from recent “experiences” and the importance of adopting an optimistic attitude at the start of this year. “You have to be happy sa pagpasok ngtaon kasi kung hindi ka magiging happy, eh baka gusto mo maging malungkot ka na lang,” she reasoned. She quickly added that not everything may turn out the way she expected it, but having a positive perspective can make a difference. “At the end of the day kung paano mo titingnan ‘yung buhay mo, ‘dun ibabase.”
Career-wise, the young actress said that her year started right, having appeared in the first episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya for 2010, which was aired on January 2. Shaina will also be included in the much-anticipated adaptation of the Mexicanovela, Rubi. “I’m very, very thankful kasi nag-start ‘yung taon ko nang tama. Nagpapasalamat ako kay Bro for giving me the opportunities to start my year with a bang, like ‘yung MMK with Jason Abalos and Niña Jose and hopefully magtuloy-tuloy sa akin. Etong Rubi bago rin ang maipapakita natin rito,” she beamed. Also in Rubi are Angelica Panganiban, Diether Ocampo, and Jake Cuenca.
Shaina admitted that she wouldn’t mind being paired with different actors since she believes it would help improve her skills. “Mago-grow ka as an actor ‘pag ganon. Iba-iba ang napupulot mo ‘pag ganon sa iba-ibang leading men. Iba-iba rin ang napupulot mo sa iba-ibang directors na nakakasama mo.”
While she’s looking forward to 2010, the young actress said that she felt very blessed in 2009 because she did not run out of projects. “Maski nga matagal na akong nasa business, hindi ako nawawalan ng trabaho. I’m very thankful kay God at sa ABS-CBN and to Star Magic for taking care of me.”
